If you are not changing jobs, medical providers, or schools, you won’t have to transfer records (more on that later), but you will need to give them your new address. You will also have to update your driver’s license at the DMV. For friends and family, you can reach out to people personally, or you can post on social media that you’re moving and they can reach out to you for your new address.
Have your mail forwarded.
Even if you change your address everywhere you can think of, some mail will still go to your old address. When you change your address with the post office, they can also help you set up mail forwarding. They can even help you update your voter registration!
Transfer medical and school records.
If you are moving too far to keep the same medical providers or your kids have to change schools, you need to arrange for those records to be transferred. Most doctor’s offices and schools have simple records request forms that you can fill out.

If you have a long enough driveway, you won’t have to worry about this. But if you live in an apartment or a neighborhood where street parking is the only option, you’ll have to make sure there is enough space for the moving van to park.
Put together an essentials kit.
Last but not least, make sure everyone in your family has a bag or box with essentials that they will need between moving out of your old house and settling into your new home. It’s also a good idea to have a box with tools or other items you will need right away before you unpack.
