PLANNING A LONG-DISTANCE MOVE: PART 1

Updated: Sep 26

Moving is never easy, but moving a long way comes with a whole set of challenges that you don’t have to worry about with a local move. As experienced and professional Boston movers, our team at Movers on the Go has dealt with every moving challenge, so we have the know-how to help you prepare. This month on the blog, we’re going to give you some tips to help your move go smoothly, no matter how far you’re going. There’s a lot to cover, so we’re dividing our advice into two parts.

Take these tips to make sure you’re ready for anything when your Boston movers arrive at your door.

Plan Your Timeline

Sometimes you have to move quickly, but in most cases, you’ll have plenty of time to plan. But that time will fly by, so don’t waste it! Start planning two to three months before your move and schedule your moving date as soon as you can. You’ll have a lot of things to keep track of, so checklists will become your best friends. Organize them in whatever way will help you stay on track. For example, you can have a checklist for each room or for each week from now until moving day.

Pack Carefully

Before you start packing, take stock of everything you own. Moving is a great opportunity to unload things you don’t need. Go through each room and determine what you want to keep, what you can sell or donate, and what you should throw away. Label everything so you don’t accidentally get rid of items you meant to keep.

Once you’ve determined what you’re taking with you, it’s time to start packing. Start packing non-essential items early and set aside an essentials box of everything you’ll need in the first few days before you can unpack in your new home. Keep important items and documents with you so you have them on hand, and make copies just in case.

Make Time for Cleaning

To ensure that you haven’t missed anything and that your house is ready for its new occupants, leave enough time to thoroughly clean your house. Depending on the size of your home and the timeline of your move, it may be worth paying a professional cleaning company to clean your house.
